@Sathya I'm in the top 20, woohoo
I'm impressed by Hello71, on this list. With such reputation, you wouldn't expect someone to lower it with repeated downvotes
Note in general about moderation: we have the big guns, we can kill questions, answers or users in single clicks, but we wouldn't be as effective without all people voting, or flagging. Seriously, every time you spot a bad post or user for us, it's really of great help for the site. And all the merit is yours, because on our side, all we do then is to review quickly, and apply the treatment. But seriously, you frequent users rock, keep flagging and voting, that's what keeps the place clean.

I'm 17th on that list? Wow. I didn't think I downvoted that often.

@Gnoupi, @random: In what way is my question off-topic?

Q: What software improvements made you more efficient, and why?

TomWijI wonder what other people have done to become more efficient in everyday computer tasks.

It's about computer software. I would have suspected it to be too subjective but I can't see why it would instead be off-topic.

Damn. I was going to close that as well

@TomWij - actually, I would have closed it as subjective or not a real question. It's very wide

Although I was going to say subjective and argumentative

It was more a discussion or getting-to-know-you than anything else.

As for why. It's a discussion, not a question. It doesn't serve any purpose and there is by no means a single valid answer.
It's more suited for a discussion forum

7:41 PM
@Diago: That's why it's a community wiki.

let me, let me!

CW is NOT an excuse to post discussions

Community Wiki only means that people can participate in answers

+1 @Gnoupi

@Diago - no it's not
So it is suitable for questions in which you will list solutions, for example

7:42 PM
@Gnoupi You beat me to it, and I am going to beat you with your remove link!

But I don't see how my question differs from:

Q: Your home backup strategy

David PokludaWhat is your recommended backup strategy for home computers? I have two computers - desktop and notebook. All the important data is store on the desktop computer. I am currently using Mozy to backup my data from desktop computer to Mozy servers. What do you use?

because several persons can improve one particular solution

Q: What's Your Favorite Harmless Computer Practical Joke?

Ben GriswoldA couple of months ago, I returned from lunch to find that typing any key launched a random application. As I always lock my machine before walking away from it, my first thought was that a co-worker was playing a practical joke on me. As it turned out, the cause was random computer wonkiness. Bu...

but CW is not a shield for discussions, never is

... which are still open.

@TomWij The community evolves over time, and just because we at one stage allowed these questions, we do tend to change as the community does. However, we do not retroactively apply policy chances. It makes no logistical or timing sense.

yes, those are "list questions"

Mine is one too.

they could be closed, but these are the "borderline" ones which were at the beginning, which are popular
yours is not well defined enough
it's far too wide

I see

we can answer almost anything since the invention of computers

7:55 PM
Thank you for explaining that questions should be concise enough to be answered... :-)

Closed it on the point that it wasn't asking for a solution to a problem, but looking for solutions to a problem that doesn't really exist outside the hypothetical. Plus, better for a forum.

@random We've been doing this for too long :(

@Diago: rep recalcs?

@Hello71 Moderation and question closing.

:113687
just noticed the "reply to this message" feature
we do retroactively apply policy changes

8:07 PM
It depends. What I meant was simply, if the policy changes today, the mods are not going to go through and change or delete every question right away
And some will still slip through. I do agree when they come up again we do remove them. And we have tried with the new SE sites to silently remove the older questions over a period of time

@Diago True, was trying to create a great question but seems like looking at those borderline questions was not the best idea.

@TomWij You have a whole month to come up with something.
And on that note. I am out.

@Hello71 Yeah, you can reply to others. But you need to type the message behind the number, I don't know if this is by design or a bug.
@Diago Won't be on the site much the next three weeks due to exams, so I have only the last week free (which I will use for reputation grinding to try to get the monitor).

By design, looked like @Hello71 just put the message on the next line after the messageID

@TomWij Actually, I just hovered over the message and clicked "reply to this message"

8:12 PM
But well, trying to pose a good question now and then should work out.
@Hello71: Now it did work... :-)
I am out too, got to study some more... :-(

You're holding it wrong would have at least been remotely funny.
